Wildfire Risk Reduction Grant

Protecting Our Community from Wildfire Risks

Happy Valley is taking proactive steps to reduce wildfire risks and keep our community safe. With the support of a Community Wildfire Risk Reduction Grant, we are working closely with local designated Homeowners Associations (HOAs) where their greenspaces have been identified as moderate to high risk from a Wildfire Assessment done in 2022 to create safer spaces between neighborhoods and surrounding green areas.

Why This Matters

Wildfires have become a growing threat in Oregon, and defensible space plays a key role in protecting homes and critical facilities like schools, fire stations, and emergency shelters. By removing flammable vegetation, thinning overgrown brush, and creating buffer zones, we can slow the spread of wildfire and provide a safer environment for firefighters to work in.

How the City is Taking Action

Beginning in June 2025, this initiative will host community cleanup events to remove flammable vegetation and create safer spaces between neighborhoods and green areas. The program includes resident training, HOA collaboration, and hands-on wildfire mitigation efforts to protect homes, critical facilities, and our community.

Through this program, we will:
Educate Residents – Provide training on wildfire safety and defensible space strategies, possibly encouraging each neighborhood to become a
